Nimbu paani

Nimbu Paani literally translates to "lemon water" and it is sold at street vendors in India.  Nimbu paani is very similar to lemonade. This lemonade is made with limes and flavored with virtuous ginger.  If you missed my post about limes, click here

The recipe:
This is a very refreshing drink that is sweet, tangy and spicy.

Serves 4
  • 1 1/4 cup ginger syrup (click here for the recipe)
  • 1/2 cup lime juice
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
Combine all the ingredients in a pitcher.  Serve it over ice. Garnish with sliced ginger and lime.

  1. This looks wonderful, and since we keep limes and fresh ginger in the house it will be easy to prepare. I'm sure that my husband will love this drink.

  3. Thanks for giving us the etymology of the word 'nimbu'! My favorite drink at an Indian restaurant I used to frequent had that word in it and I always wondered what it meant! I see that my mom (Kate) has already responded to your post as well! :-)

  5. It sounds very refreshing, Komali! Please tell us, what is the name of the flower blossom? I recognize the eucalyptus but not the flower.
Also, what makes the ginger virtuous???

  7. Rettabug,
The blossom you saw on this post called protea. Please check my previous post about proteas. It is Australian and South African native plant. But it thrives in Southern California weather. Please continue to read my blog. I am planning to blog about gardening and flower arranging.

Ginger is one of most commonly used spice in Indian cooking. Among other medicinal properties it is highly valued as a stimulant for digestion. Soon I will do a post about ginger.
    Komali.
