Ginger Syrup

This is just a simple syrup flavored with ginger. I have featured many recipes, both alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks using ginger syrup in my cookbook Entertaining From an Ethnic Indian Kitchen.
Next time when you want to flavor your drinks, instead of simple syrup use ginger syrup. I am sure you will enjoy.

Yield 1 cup
• 1 cup sugar
• 1 cup water
• 4 tablespoons grated ginger

In a small stockpot, boil sugar, water and grated ginger over medium heat. Stir until sugar dissolves and boil for another two minutes Turn off the heat and let it steep for 30 minutes to infuse ginger flavor into the sugar syrup. Strain the syrup and use as required.
You can store the syrup in the refrigerator for up to a month.

Please check out Foodie Friday for more recipes.

  3. This is an absolutely wonderful recipe. I believe in ginger's virtues--it soothes the tummy. When I need a pick me up, I drink ginger tea--it never fails. Have a great weekend!
