Weekend flowers

Over the weekend, I was entertaining two groups of people. Whenever I entertain, my first task is to make flower arrangements for the entire house. These are the few arrangements from my weekend entertaining.

Garden party 2: The centerpieces

This is a continuation of my series of posts about the garden party after the harvest. Since the garden has lots of color, I decided to keep the centerpieces understated. I decided to go with small potted plants to make arrangements instead of traditional flowers. I brought African violets, maiden heir fern, and other greenery to complete the arrangements. The containers for these arrangements are nothing but simple dark wooden planters. Since these are living plants, these arrangements can last lot longer than flowers. If I am planning to entertain a different group of people in couple of  weeks, my arrangements are ready for the party. Best way to stretch your dollar.

Some times single plant can make a bold statement if you present it well. Maiden hair fern in an ornate container can look beautiful in  a proper setting. I used this planter on the dessert table. You will see in future posts.

The following arrangement is for the kitchen table, to carry the same theme.

Rex begonia is one of my favorite.

Obsessing over David Austin Roses

Well, from time to time my obsession changes with plants. At the moment, I am obsessed with David Austin roses. I love them for their visual appeal and for their aroma. All of my arbors are filled with these beauties. I think my garden has been enhanced with the addition on these roses. Whenever I am in the garden, I gravitate towards the intoxicating aroma of these old-fashioned roses. If you have never tried growing them, give it a try. You will see why I am addicted to these roses.

Alstroemerias galore!

Gardens are living things, constantly changing the color pallet through out the year. Every season I have different flowers that are blooming in the garden. Most of the protea bushes are taking a break and roses are done their peak, now that alstroemerias are at their peak. Different colored alstroemerias are blooming throughout the garden in pink, purple, white, red and gold. My favorite color is gold.

Vibrant gold colored alstroemerias cheer me up every time I walk by this part of my perennial garden.  It is hard not to smile when looking at them.

My entrance table showcases what is at peak in the garden

Mother's day table

Mother's Day is around the corner. It is time to nurture the nurturer. My Mother's Day table is set in the garden with my favorite David Austin roses centerpiece.

David Austin roses not only look good, they smell divine. Now I have a rule in the garden: if I have to replace any rose or vine in the garden, it is only with David Austin roses.

Flower arranging

Last week, my friends came for a visit from Boston. It is always good to spend time with the people we love. My friend Shobha and I share a love for cooking, flower arranging and table settings.  We did all of those things while they were here.

We had many cups of chai sitting in the patio overlooking the garden.

Last post I shared my front garden blooms. Here is one of the protea plants overloaded with blooms.

We harvested flowers from the garden. This is our loot from the garden.

Both of us arranged flowers for the entire house. The following one is for the kitchen table.

 One for the entrance table

Another one for the family room

We had lot of fun with the hobby we love, arranging flowers.
