I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas. Now that Christmas is behind us, it is time to focus on the new year and its resolutions. One thing for sure is that after packing few pounds during the holiday season, the number one resolution for New Year is that we all want to lose weight. I am more determined than ever in 2010. My goal is to promote the healthy benefits of spices into the American diet. More and more research indicates that including spices such as turmeric into your diet can reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s, prostate cancer, ovarian cancer and breast cancer. My goal is not to lose weight, but I would like to eat right, do exercise and feel good. I like to walk almost every day and do yoga at least 5 times a week. I hope to continue with this regime in 2010.
For today’s Tablescape Thursday, I want to share some photos of the New Year’s Eve chapter from my book, Entertaining From an Ethnic Indian Kitchen. For New Year's Eve color theme is pink with a touch of blue, pewter and white. Whenever possible, I like to include ethnic fabrics into my tablescape. Here I used one of my pink saree to cover the table. I took the contrasting blue fabric from the same saree and attached it to the back of the dining room chairs. I wrapped another saree as drapes for the window. I changed my tapestry to another fabric from my collection. With that, the color scheme for the table is set.
I set the table with pewter chargers and pewter wine glasses. I used simple white dinner and bread plates. Napkins are made from leftover fabric from the same saree.
Overall view of the dining room
Close up of the place setting. Notice napkin rings and wine glasses are from Villeroy and Boch from a few years ago. Flatware is from Horchow. Charger plates and salad bowls were from Pottery Barn. Centerpiece is made from flowers from my own garden. I made napkins from leftover saree fabric. Salad is made with roasted beets and cucumber.
The wine is served from matching wine decanters.
The heart-shaped flute glasses were given to me as a gift from a friend. The ice bucket is wrapped with fabric and gold threads just to give the festive touch.
Wish you all a happy and healthy New Year.
