Garden Party 5: The finale - dessert buffet

This is my last post about the garden party. My garden party ended with a sweet note:  The Dessert Buffet. Your guests may not remember what they eat for dinner, but they will always remember the dessert at the party. I took advantage of the garden space and served appetizers, drinks, dinner and dessert at a different location, so that guests could enjoy the different parts of garden.

Of course, my garden parties are never the same without my signature dessert: fruit tarts. The recipe can be found in my first book, Entertaining from an Ethnic Indian Kitchen.

Since there is so much color on the table and around, I kept the centerpiece to the minimum by using my favorite maiden heir fern in a beautiful container. On this table I could even have done without the centerpiece.

Event Planning

Yesterday, the yoga center in my town celebrated its 10th anniversary.  Proceeds from the event benefited the RAIN community, a local transitional living center for homeless families. Entertainment was provided by the very special guest, singer/songwriter Donna DeLory (www.donnadelory.com), who sang kirtans all evening.

I was honored to be chosen as the event coordinator, responsible for a 200 people dessert buffet.

Platters were assembled on the kitchen counter at the event site

Mango mousse with pomegranate-berry sauce was a great hit at the party

Savory spanakopitas were added to the menu to offset all the sweet dishes

The stage was set for the buffet and was made ready to assemble the food. Ornate risers were used to display the desserts.

Since it was a yoga celebration, I wanted to bring serenity to the table with garden flowers and Eastern figurine candle holders.

Arranging platters on the table

The recipe for fruit tarts and mango mousse can be found in my book, Entertaining From an Ethnic Indian Kitchen. Sorry for the blurry pictures. It was hard to photograph, while the crowd was impatiently waiting to dig into these pastries.

I was grateful to be part of a meaningful celebration.

South East Asian Wedding Expo

Last January, I had a booth at South East Asian Wedding Expo promoting my book, where there are lot of caterers, florists and designers pitching for their businesses. I get to meet lot of small business owners. Next to my booth there was this very talented caterer,  Keith Tucker, at Ocho Rios who displayed the most amazing bite-sized desserts filled with exotic fillings such as mango and passion fruit. His mango cake was to die for. If you are anywhere near Los Angeles area, he can cater desserts and cakes from his catering company OchoRiosCatering.net . Here are some of the images I want to share it with you.

Aren't they adorable?

What a diaplay!

Please try not to drool over these pastries.

Yes, they are all edible, including the shells.
