Kumquats

Here is another bounty from my garden, kumquats.

Kumquats are known as “little golden gems of the citrus family”. I not only like to pop them in my mouth, I also like to use them in my flower arrangements or simply enjoy a bowl of kumquats on my kitchen table. I feel it is the nature's best candy.

Kumquats have a very distinctive taste. It is the only citrus fruit that can be eaten with the skin. The peel is the sweetest part of the fruit, whereas the pulp is a little sour. When you eat them together, it tastes sweet and sour. Did I mention that it has seeds just like an orange?

Yep, it is that time of the year to make kumquat preserves.

  1. Just found your blog and have enjoyed reading your back posts. Your fabrics and dishes are beautiful. My daughter in law made chicken tiki marsala for us this week. We loved it. It was our first intro to Indian cuisine. I know she would like your cookbook. Glad to find your blog.
