My kitchen garden update and first harvest

My kitchen garden has grown tremendously since my last post about my frustrations with rabbits.
My husband has tightly secured all the entry points for the rabbits to enter. Since then, I haven't had problems with rabbits. I am crossing my fingers, though. This past week brought my first harvest from the garden with the exception of snow peas. We had several delicious stir-frys with snow peas.

My butternut squash patch is growing by leaps and bounds. I see lots of baby squash.

I plan to experiment with new recipes using this tender zucchini.

Japanese and Indian eggplants are beginning to yield.

Cherry tomatoes are getting ready for salads.

After losing my first batch of seedlings to rabbits, my second batch of okra is growing beautifully.

Green beans are flowering.

I am letting my cayenne peppers mature more for more flavor and spiciness before harvesting.

Can't have too many peppers.

Now if you excuse me, I need to weed my kitchen garden.

  2. It all looks so wonderful! We also have a banner crop of butternut squash for the moment, and the rabbits have not been too bad (except they ate my sunflowers before they could grow), but I am more concerned about the deer. Keep posting about the garden so I can compare.

  6. Beautiful garden...the eggplants look wonderful. My peppers rotted from so much rain the beginning of the growing season and I didn't replace them. The tomatoes didn't do much better, think I only have a few on the vine. Not a good year for me, but we do have great farmers markets!
    Have a great weekend, Komali.
